How the age is worked out
Your age in AD counts whole years, months and days from your English date of birth, the way passports and forms abroad do. Your age in BS does the same with Nepali months, which have 29 to 32 days. The two can differ by a day or two, because the months are different lengths. Official Nepali forms usually want the BS age.
Common uses
- Forms and applications: Lok Sewa, school admission, passport and license forms often ask for your age on a certain date. Open “Calculate age on a different date” and pick the deadline.
- Birthdays in both calendars: many families celebrate the BS birthday, which falls on a different English date every year. The result shows both upcoming birthdays.
- Converting a date of birth: the result also shows your date of birth in the other calendar. See our guide on converting a date of birth.
Questions
Which dates can I use?
BS 1975 to 2090 (AD 1918 to 2034).
Why is my BS age different from my AD age?
Nepali and English months have different lengths, so the leftover months and days differ slightly. The number of years is almost always the same.
Is my date of birth saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, and the date is only kept in the page address so you can bookmark it.
