Converting a date of birth
Passports, citizenship certificates and school records in Nepal often use the BS date of birth, while visa and job forms abroad ask for the AD date. Pick your BS birth date above to get the matching AD date and weekday. If a form needs the format YYYY-MM-DD, the second line of the result is already in that format. Our guide on converting a date of birth explains the common mistakes.
Why there is no simple formula
People often add 56 years, 8 months and 17 days to convert a date. That shortcut can be off by a day or more, because Nepali months have 29 to 32 days and the pattern changes every year. This converter counts the actual days in each month from a calendar table, so the result matches the patro.
Questions
How accurate is the conversion?
For past and current years it matches the official calendar. The month table was cross-checked against four independent open-source calendar tables, and any disagreements were settled by majority. Years beyond the published patro are projections.
Why does Nepali New Year fall on April 13 in some years and April 14 in others?
Baisakh 1 is tied to the sun entering Aries (Mesh Sankranti). Because a solar year isn’t a whole number of days, that moment shifts between April 13 and 14.
What does the “days from today” line use?
It counts from today’s date in Nepal (UTC+5:45).
Can I link to a specific date?
Yes. Add ?bs=2083-07-15 or ?ad=2026-11-01 to the page address, or just copy the address after picking a date.
