Fine gold, tejabi gold and silver
Fine gold (छापावाल, 24 karat, 99.9% pure) is the purest gold sold in Nepal, usually as bars and coins. Tejabi gold (तेजाबी) is slightly less pure and is commonly used for jewellery, so its rate is a little lower. Silver is priced per tola like gold.
Tola, aana and lal
| Unit | Equals | In grams |
|---|---|---|
| 1 tola | 16 aana, or 100 lal | 11.6638 g |
| 1 aana | 6.25 lal | 0.729 g |
| 1 lal | – | 0.1166 g |
| 10 grams | about 0.857 tola | 10 g |
Why the price changes every day
Nepal imports its gold and silver, so the price follows the international market and the dollar exchange rate. FENEGOSIDA sets the daily rate in Nepal based on those, and customs duties are included.
Questions
Is this the price I will pay at a jewellery shop?
It is the reference rate per tola. Shops add making charges (jyala) and VAT on jewellery, and may buy back old gold at a lower rate.
How do I convert grams to tola?
Divide the grams by 11.6638. For example, 10 grams is about 0.857 tola. The calculator above does it for you.
When does the rate change?
Usually once every working day. It isn’t updated on Saturdays and some public holidays.
