How vehicle tax works
Vehicle tax in Nepal is collected by each province, so the rate depends on the province where your vehicle is registered and its engine size (cc). You pay it once every fiscal year when you renew the bluebook (Shrawan to Ashadh). Paying late adds a fine, and each older unpaid year adds a larger one.
Fines used here: 5% within 30 days, 10% within 75 days, 20% later in the fiscal year, and 32% for each earlier unpaid year. The renewal fee is Rs 300 for a motorcycle and Rs 500 for a car. Provinces sometimes waive old fines through amnesty programmes, so ask the transport office.
Electric vehicles and commercial vehicles use different rates and aren’t included here.
