Two ways to type Nepali
The Traditional layout puts Nepali letters on fixed keys, the same keys as the Preeti font. Offices, Lok Sewa exams and many typists use it. The English letters layout (romanized) lets you type Nepali the way it sounds: namaste becomes नमस्ते.
Tap any key to type it, or type with your own keyboard. Hold Shift (or tap the Shift key) to see the second letter on each key. The text box shows the keys; the box below shows the Nepali.
Setting up a Nepali keyboard
- Windows: Settings → Time & language → Language → Add a language → Nepali. Choose the Traditional or Romanized layout, then switch with Windows + Space.
- Android: in Gboard, open Settings → Languages → Add keyboard → Nepali.
- iPhone: Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Nepali.
