How to convert Preeti to Unicode
- Open your Word, Excel or PageMaker file and select the Nepali text written in Preeti.
- Copy it. Once copied it looks like English letters, such as
g]kfn. That is expected. - Make sure Preeti is selected in step 1, then tap Paste.
- Tap Copy Nepali text and use it anywhere.
Why convert Preeti text?
Preeti is a legacy font. It stores Nepali by drawing Nepali shapes over English keyboard characters, so g]kfn only looks like नेपाल when the Preeti font is installed. On a phone, a website or in an email it shows up as gibberish, and Google can’t search it. Unicode text works everywhere without a special font. Read more in Preeti vs Unicode.
Getting the best results
- Copy only the Nepali part. English words in the same document were typed in a different font, but once copied they look the same as Preeti, so they’ll be converted too. Fix them in the result.
- Word’s curly quotes are handled. If Word changed
'or"into curly quotes, the converter still reads them as ु and ू. - Other fonts: this tool is for Preeti. Text in Kantipur, Sagarmatha or other legacy fonts uses a different layout and may not convert correctly.

No. The conversion runs on your device and nothing is sent to a server.
Some letters came out wrong. What should I do?
