When you still need Preeti
Many government offices, schools and printing presses in Nepal still keep templates, certificates and forms in Preeti. If you write the text in Unicode, on your phone or in Google Docs for example, this converter makes it ready for those templates without retyping.
Good to know
- The Preeti font must be installed on the computer that opens the document, or the text will look like random English letters.
- Numbers become Nepali numerals, because Preeti has no English digits.
- English words in the input aren’t changed. Format them in an English font after pasting.
- Punctuation is mapped to the matching Preeti keys. Preeti has no colon, so a colon becomes the visarga (ः).
Questions
Why does the result look like gibberish?
That is how Preeti text is stored. Each English character draws a Nepali shape when the Preeti font is applied.
Will conjuncts like क्ष, त्र, द्ध and reph (र्) come out right?
Yes. The converter places ि before its letter cluster and reph after its syllable, as Preeti expects, and uses Preeti’s special glyphs for conjuncts such as द्ध, ट्ट and ङ्ग.
